Dave Crew (1976/77 - May 30, 2006), Beloved Husband, Father, Son, Brother
I'll admit, I never got to know Dave very well. At least, not as well as I wish I had. In fact, I hadn't seen him in at least 18 months until I went to his wedding reception earlier this month. But I highly doubt that anyone who spent more than a few minutes with him has forgotten him.
A quick story, the one I'll remember him for: Roughly three years or so ago, I had a few people over for some drinkin', as usual. Chris brought his new friend, Dave, with him. Dave was quite a character. Talkative and friendly in the extreme, he talked eagerly about paintball as we played drinking games.
Another friend of mine showed up, one who loved to drink, but was perpetually short of cash. He took a seat and watched for a few minutes as we played. Before long, Dave asked what must have been the obvious to him.
"Hey man, why arentcha drinkin'?"
My friend shrugged his shoulders and replied
"I, ahhhh, don't have any money."
Dave, who had just met this guy a couple minutes ago, picked up one of his unopened 40's of Budweiser and extended it.
"Here you go man, take mine."
My friend was stupified, generosity like this not coming around often. When he politely attempted to deny, Dave insisted, remarking "A favor given is a favor returned." A lot of people claim to have catchphrases, but Dave really said that one, and truly believed it.
If Dave hadn't died, I likely wouldn't be thinking about him now. But he did, and I miss him.

What's the story? What happened to Dave?
Well anonymous poster, Dave unfortunately contracted metastatic melanoma cancer in his lungs, which led to a slow, painful death.
His wake was interesting when I compared it to the wake of a friend who committed suicide a couple years back. At the latter's wake, everyone was shocked and tearful, but at Dave's, I felt a sense of relief that his suffering had come to an end.
Hmm I love the idea behind this website, very unique.
