While doing some research for my Sicko review, I came across this article about people who travel to Asian countries for medical care that is cheaper, faster, or better than at home.

Very interesting. Though I can't imagine anyone going to Japan for cheaper health care, it is probably more expensive here to get quality care than it is in America.
I wish I knew more about economics. I wonder if it is possible for subsections of the economy to inflate cost faster than the nation as a whole, making the cost of health care increase faster than the average inflation rate.
Or perhaps government subsidies and liberal health-care laws prevent health-care practices from operating under a natural competition which increases prices.
Or, maybe it's so damn easy to sue doctors these days that all those inflated doctors bills go to cover malpractice insurance.
I don't know exactly why health care here is so expensive. I suppose iving expenses are higher here than in, say, India or Thailand. Thus, doctors need to be paid a lot more for their services in order to make their job worthwhile. Anyone who suggests that doctors should be a level or two about school teachers ala Michael Moore have obviously never known any doctors outside of the office.
In a way, it's comforting for me to know that even if medicine ever goes way downhill here, I can always fly to Thailand and get those breast implants I've always wanted.
