I still don't think you should have gotten a poodle. I don't think a more emasculating dog exists. It wasn't always that way though.
The show cuts seen on poodles today are evolved from working cuts. The name Poodle comes from "pudle" an old english word for splashing, as the dogs were originally used as retrievers, especially in water situations. Long hair was left alone to provide warmth to major joints while the rest of the body was shaved to reduce drag in the water.
According to some breeders, even the minirature poodles will still point on birds.
Fun poodle facts: Poodle fur more closely resembles human hair than average dog fur. They are also one of the best breeds for people who are mildly allergic to dogs due to the fact that they are shedless.
A man named John Suter competed in the Iditarod Dog Sled Race with a team of poodles (standard size) from 1988 to 1991.
If you're going to have a poodle, you would do well to learn this information to defend your choice of dog to other men.
I'll bet there have been some seriously tough poodles out there, but Ms. Pickles ain't one of them. She's a very gentle dog, not to mention she'll probably never weigh more than 4 or 5 pounds in her entire life. But that's what I like, because I've already had a dog that hates my damn guts and won't listen to a word I say, thanks a lot Mom.
