522 - You Aught to Know - Lucas McNelly

1. The Best of Youth, Marco Tullio Giordana, 2003

2. Before Sunset, Richard Linklater, 2004

3. WALL-E, Andrew Stanton, 2008

4. In the Bedroom, Todd Field, 2001

5. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Michel Gondry, 2004

6. Saraband, Ingmar Bergman, 2003

It is the sort of haunting, captivating work we expect from Bergman but rarely get from anyone else. He has said this is his final work and if it is, this is a master filmmaker going out on top. Instead of fading away, he leaves with a roar. A fitting, if not perfect, final chapter to an amazing body of work.

7. Lost in Translation, Sofia Coppola, 2003

8. The Royal Tenenbaums, Wes Anderson, 2001

9. The New World, Terrence Malick, 2005

10. Talk to Her, Pedro Almodóvar, 2002

Lucas McNelly is an award-winning filmmaker. His feature-length debut, Blanc de Blanc, is currently available from his website. He is often too melancholy for his own good.
