587 - Armored review

I might call this Hitcockian, except it's disqualified on the grounds of no sex. But despite its very contemporary tone, I couldn't help but think of cinema's greatest yarn-weaver as this film's premise, about an armored car guard locked inside his truck as his colleagues try to break in to extract the $21 million inside. Lean direction and an all-star cast lend gravitas to what could have just as easily wound up premiering on prime time TV. Columbus Short, the least known name in the film, makes a highly sympathetic lead, his boilerplate problems ("I'm about to get evicted! My little brother needs an education! I'm a war hero!") seeming genuine and urgent.
